Cooking Class

About a 15 minute walk from our place is a store called Gewurzhaus Spice Kitchen which offers a wide variety of spices, herbs, blends, salts, sugars, teas, chocolates, and kitchenware, plus a kitchen in the back to hold cooking classes. The store smells great! The four of us decided to take the Dumplings cooking class on a Saturday morning. We were taught by Lou Wong, who just so happened to be from the states. She was from Sacramento and moved to Australia in the late 80's. Probably a little more info than you needed to know, but it's not very often that we have met people from the states. Anyway, we made three types of dumplings, the first one being Roast Duck Wraps, second Prawn and Chive Dumplings, and third Pork Wontons.

Most of the ingredients had already been prepped, but we got to participate in making all of the dumplings.

We learned how to wrap the ingredients in the dough. The key is to wrap them up tightly so there are no openings so they don't fall apart either in the frying pan, or when placed in boiling water. There were a many that fell apart, but I don't think they were from the four of us...ok, maybe that's not true, but I like to think that.

Just look at those smiling faces at 10 am on a Saturday morning ready to cook!

Here's Henry helping out and pan frying the Roast Duck Wraps. Yum!

These are the Pork and Chive Dumplings.

Tony is very focused as he chops up some herbs.
Nice job, Emma.
All wrapped up and ready to put in boiling water.

Almost finished, just needs the finishing touches.

Ready to eat!

  2. Deal. And when we crash at your place we'd like some of that delicious pavlova.
